El Camino approached us asking us to paint two murals with subject matter that related to student culture and local flowers. Enter in Steve Martinez and Otto Martinez, an uncle and nephew team of graphic designers and veteran muralists who have worked with some of corporate America's largest brands.

Coming from Spanish-speaking households themselves, Otto and Steve were more than ready to hop on walls that allowed them to connect to cultures they shared with the students.

We chose the phrase "Unidos" which translates to  "united." This was painted on one wall with high visibility and foot traffic, while we painted a larger mural on the inside of campus of a ballet folklorico dancer and local California poppies.
